JOHN SAYS......
I am against the home test. There are around 15 different testing kits available, on the internet and in drug stores but there is only one that is FDA Approved (U.S. Food and Drug Administration).
You can also get home testing kits for Hepatitis C (HCV). I recommend "Home Access," which is around $45 for the regular kit, and $75 for the express kit where you get the results in 3 business days instead of 7.
There are other tests available that are cheaper but not as accurate.
With these home tests you do not have to give your name. You are given a number that is in the kit.
The main reason I am against these home tests is that you get the results by phone.
This is not the type of information you want to get on the phone. You want to get the results in person, from a professional.
Many young people have become depressed, and even killed themselves over the results. In one case the positive result was an error.
Of course the home test is better than no test. If circumstances prevent you from getting the test taken at a center, then the Home Access is better than nothing.
